| prayerIn the first part of the day is the Fajr or the morning prayer (two rak'as) before sunrise , and in the second part of the day the Zohr , or the early after-noon from the inclination of sun to the west , and the Asr or the later after-noon prayers , the time when the shadow of a person shall be the length of his own stature; each of them consists of four rak'as . In the first hours of the night is the Maghrib: (the after sunset prayer) which involves three rak'as . The Isha or the night prayer commences when the afterglow of sunset has disappeared and the full darkness of the night has set in . The Isha prayer contains four rak'as . Allah says in chapter 11 verse 114 part 12 , Surat-hud what means: " And keep up regular prayers to the full, at the two ends of the day and at the first hours of the night ( from the Fajr to the full darkness of the night ) . Surely good deeds blot out evil deeds . This is a remainder to those who remember the Almighty Allah" for prayers restrains from Shamefull and unjust deeds, and keeps the performer away from evil . Islam enjoins prayers to be sincerely performed . If prayer is done with absent heart, it degenerates into mere ritual and vapid ceremony . Such a prayer is not accepted by the Quran which gives the warning . Allah says in Surah El Ma'un what means : " So woe to the worshippers who are neglectful of their prayers , those who do good to be seen of men and withhold alms" . The worshipper , in his prayer must concetrate innerly on Allah with heart and mind . Among the purposes of prayers enjoined upon Muslims are: to worship the Almighty Allah , to meditate on Allah's verses, to be loyal to the Faith , to have pure hearts and souls , to lay special stress on the cleanliness of the body and clothes , to combat evil desires to overcome the whispring devil , and to be good-natured , pious and righteous .The prophet Mohammad , (may mercy, peace and the blessing of Allah be upon him ) said" Tell me if any one of you had a rivulet before his doors and bathed five times day therein whether any dirt would remain on his body ?" The companions said:" Nothing would remain." The prophet said :" in this manner will the five daily prayers as ordered by Allah erase all minor sins." | |
